Accommodation

The week following the Easter long weekend (25 March-28 March) is a popular vacation time, meaning that hotels and other rented lodgings in Sydney may be busy. It is recommended that you make your accommodation booking as early as possible.

The University of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. It is bordered by the suburbs of Kensington to the West, Kingsford to the South and Randwick to the North and the East, and it is a 30-minute walk from the beachside suburb of Coogee. Central Station, in the Central Business District (CBD), is about 4.5 km away.

UNSW is easily accessible by bus from Sydney’s CBD, where many hotels are located. In addition to the local suburban M50, 390, 391, 392, 393, 394, 395, 396, 397 and 399 routes, the express bus routes 890, 891, 892 and 895 run directly between Eddy Avenue at Central Station and UNSW. Please note that you will require an Opal card to travel on these buses (www.opal.com.au). Further information about getting to UNSW will be posted under the Conference Venue tab.

There is no official conference hotel for AMSN3. Listed below are suggestions for places to stay that are either close to UNSW (in Randwick and Coogee), or close to Central Station, where you can catch an express bus to UNSW. Because of their proximity to the beach, the two Coogee hotels below are not the most economical places to stay in Sydney, and cheaper options can be found either in Randwick or in the Sydney CBD, which is a 15 or 20 minute bus ride away from the UNSW campus.

For accommodation close to UNSW, you may wish to investigate private rooms or lodgings in the area advertised on www.airbnb.com.au, www.roomz.com.au or www.stayz.com.au. The immediately neighbouring suburbs are Randwick, Kensington and Kingsford, and a little farther afield are the beach suburbs of Maroubra and Coogee.

Finally, while the hotels and hostels listed below all have favourable TripAdvisor ratings and are conveniently situated with respect to the conference venue and/or public transport, the conference organisers cannot personally endorse any of them, except for the Dive Hotel, which is very nice. If conducting your own research on expedia.com, booking.com, hotels.com or the like, most hotels located in the Sydney CBD will be less than 30 minutes away from UNSW by public transport, and those situated close to Central Station will make for the fastest commute.
